After a while, your ear just tunes it out

One of the scariest phenomenon of my young life is hearing fading. I know that at some point it won't come back and my ol' ears are a bit more fragile than they used to be.

All these organs are kind of weird, and its the adaptive nature of humans to have the metabolic systems just sort of repair themselves into a state of submission under the elements. Certain thinsg after a while become sensory whitenoise, all sound babble.

Its something in the brain, mostly. Something that turns itself off or throttles down processing or gets overloaded or something. One's living space, for example, is transparent in a number of ways.

How much shit is just so much noise now that we hardly even recognize its there?
